Ingredients:
– 1 pound breakfast sausage (such as beef sausage)
– 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
– 3 to 4 cups whole milk
– Salt and black pepper to taste
– Biscuits, for serving

Instructions:

1. In a large skillet or frying pan, cook the breakfast sausage over medium-high heat, breaking it apart with a spoon or spatula as it cooks. Cook until the sausage is browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.

2. Once the sausage is cooked, reduce the heat to medium-low. Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage, stirring constantly to combine. Cook the flour and sausage mixture for 1-2 minutes, allowing the flour to cook and the mixture to become slightly golden.

3. Gradually pour in the milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Start with 3 cups of milk and add more as needed to reach your desired consistency. The gravy will thicken as it cooks, so you can adjust the amount of milk accordingly.

4. Continue cooking the gravy over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until it thickens to your desired consistency. This usually takes about 5-10 minutes.

5. Season the gravy with salt and black pepper to taste. Keep in mind that the sausage may already be salty, so start with a small amount of salt and adjust to taste.

6. Once the gravy is thickened and seasoned to your liking, remove it from the heat.

7. Serve the sausage gravy hot over warm biscuits.

Enjoy your hearty and comforting Pioneer Woman-style sausage gravy!
