Garlic and Herb Flatbreads Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
  • Butter for brushing (optional)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Dough:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the warm water, yogurt, and olive oil.
  3. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring to form a dough.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rest for about 1 hour in a warm place until it doubles in size.

2. Prepare the Garlic Mixture:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the minced garlic and chopped cilantro (if using). Set aside.

3. Shape and Cook the Flatbreads:

  1. After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal portions.
  2. Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  3. Take one portion of the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into an oval or round shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  4. Place the rolled-out dough onto the preheated skillet or griddle.
  5. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side until bubbles start to form, then flip it over and cook for another 2-3 minutes until golden brown spots appear.
  6. Remove the cooked flatbread from the skillet and place it on a plate. Cover with a clean kitchen towel to keep warm.
  7. Repeat the process with the remaining portions of dough.

4. Add Garlic Topping:

  1. Once all the flatbreads are cooked, brush them with the garlic mixture while they’re still warm.
  2. Optionally, you can also spread a little butter on top for extra flavor.

5. Serve:

  1. Serve the garlic flatbreads warm as a side dish or appetizer with your favorite curry, dip, or salad.
  2. Enjoy!
