Ingredients:
- 2 ounces (70 grams) butter
- 4.5 ounces (120 grams) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)
- 3 fluid ounces (90 milliliters) water
- 3.5 ounces (100 grams) grated cheese (of your choice)
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- In a mixing bowl, combine 2 ounces of butter, 4.5 ounces of all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- Pour in 3 fluid ounces of water gradually, stirring continuously until a dough forms.
Step 2: Knead and Divide
- Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
- Knead the dough by hand for a few minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Divide the dough into three equal pieces.
Step 3: Shape the Dough
- Roll each piece of dough into a ball.
- Keep the dough balls covered with a clean kitchen towel to prevent drying out.
Step 4: Prepare the Cheese
- Grate 3.5 ounces of cheese (about 100 grams).
- Set aside for later use.
Step 5: Assembly
- Roll out one piece of dough thinly into a rectangular shape.
- Brush the surface of the dough with melted butter.
- Sprinkle a generous amount of grated cheese over the buttered dough.
- Fold the dough in half to create a square shape, sealing the edges.
Step 6: Repeat
- Repeat the same process with the remaining two pieces of dough.
Step 7: Cooking
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a bit of butter to coat the surface.
- Place one assembled cheese bread onto the skillet.
- Brush the top of the bread with additional butter.
- Allow the bread to cook for a few minutes until the bottom is golden brown.
- Carefully flip the bread and cook the other side until golden brown and crispy.
- During the cooking process, the bread will puff up inside due to the hot steam, which is normal and desirable.
- Keep an eye on the bread to ensure it doesn’t burn, adjusting the heat as needed.
Step 8: Serve and Enjoy!
- Once cooked, transfer the cheese bread to a serving plate.
- Cut into slices or squares as desired.
- Serve hot and enjoy the gooey, cheesy goodness!
