Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces (70 grams) butter
  • 4.5 ounces (120 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)
  • 3 fluid ounces (90 milliliters) water
  • 3.5 ounces (100 grams) grated cheese (of your choice)

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 2 ounces of butter, 4.5 ounces of all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  2. Pour in 3 fluid ounces of water gradually, stirring continuously until a dough forms.

Step 2: Knead and Divide

  1. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
  2. Knead the dough by hand for a few minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  3. Divide the dough into three equal pieces.

Step 3: Shape the Dough

  1. Roll each piece of dough into a ball.
  2. Keep the dough balls covered with a clean kitchen towel to prevent drying out.

Step 4: Prepare the Cheese

  1. Grate 3.5 ounces of cheese (about 100 grams).
  2. Set aside for later use.

Step 5: Assembly

  1. Roll out one piece of dough thinly into a rectangular shape.
  2. Brush the surface of the dough with melted butter.
  3. Sprinkle a generous amount of grated cheese over the buttered dough.
  4. Fold the dough in half to create a square shape, sealing the edges.

Step 6: Repeat

  1. Repeat the same process with the remaining two pieces of dough.

Step 7: Cooking

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a bit of butter to coat the surface.
  2. Place one assembled cheese bread onto the skillet.
  3. Brush the top of the bread with additional butter.
  4. Allow the bread to cook for a few minutes until the bottom is golden brown.
  5. Carefully flip the bread and cook the other side until golden brown and crispy.
  6. During the cooking process, the bread will puff up inside due to the hot steam, which is normal and desirable.
  7. Keep an eye on the bread to ensure it doesn’t burn, adjusting the heat as needed.

Step 8: Serve and Enjoy!

  1. Once cooked, transfer the cheese bread to a serving plate.
  2. Cut into slices or squares as desired.
